Don't forget, we're taking a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts on August 12. You won't need to bring a lunch, but you must have your permission slip signed and with you when you get on the bus.

Assignment 4 is not due until August 10 (instead of August 8).

Hickory, dickory, dock, a mouse has messed up the clock. Something, at least, has messed up the old alarm clock in Randy’s bedroom. Sometimes it runs backward, with the hands moving counter-clockwise.

When Randy looked at the clock yesterday morning, it showed a quarter to 10. It then ran backward for 14 hours, 6 minutes, and then forward for 5 hours, 53 minutes, and finally backward again for 10 hours, 41 minutes.

Randy’s clock is a standard 12-hour analog clock.

What time will the clock now show?

It’s hard to believe how fast time is going in fifth grade! This week we spent much time learning about the different time zones. Students learned facts about different states located in each time zone, we also “visited” these states through literature and technology (Google Earth). This was a wonderful kick off for our August Social Studies unit– Geography!

We will spending the next month learning about the continents, countries, and landforms. In the past students have really enjoyed this unit because I incorporate Google Earth, so the students are actually “visiting” these areas. You can download Google Earth for your home use by going to http://earth.google.com/
